Recipe #9: German Pancakes

We make German Pancakes in our family too, but they are basically just like crepes – thin pancakes, so when I found this recipe that’s what I was expecting. That is until I read the instructions and realized this was going to be something entirely different. I’ve made something like this before called a Dutch Baby.

  • 6 Tablespoons Butter
  • 6 whole Eggs
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 dash Salt

Preparation Instructions

Preheat oven to 400. Melt butter in heating oven in a 9×13 pan. Mix all other ingredients and pour into melted butter. Bake 15-20 minutes, until crusts are brown and fluffy. Serve with powdered sugar or maple syrup.

The result was like a mixture of french toast and pancakes. It filled me up with just a couple of slices and I really liked that it was fast. I mixed up the ingredients, tossed it in the oven and then went about taking care of some cleaning around the house while it cooked. I hardly ever cook breakfast for anyone else, but it would be something easy to throw in the oven and not have to stand over a stove the whole time.

Was this a keeper? Yep! Bring on the breakfast crowd!
